How River works

River turns corporate filings into a dated, searchable record while keeping the original filing behind every record.

What River reads

River reads corporate announcements filed with the National Stock Exchange of India across listed companies.

For the order record, River keeps announcements where a company told the exchange it had won work — a letter of award, a work order, a contract, or a declared lowest bid.

Announcements that use the word “order” in its legal sense — tax demands, tribunal orders, regulatory orders and similar filings — are excluded by rule, not by judgement.

What happens to a filing

Where a filing contains an attached document, River reads it and takes the value, counterparty and execution period from the company's own words.

Values are reproduced as filed. River does not turn a filed value into a revenue forecast or an investment conclusion.

How River handles cumulative order books

Restatements of a cumulative order book are excluded from every total on the order pages.

When a company says its order book “now stands at” a particular figure, that figure describes backlog. It is not work newly won during the period. Adding it to newly announced orders would overstate the total.

Those filings are not discarded. They remain on the company's own page so the original record is still available.

Foreign currency

Announcements in foreign currency are counted but are not converted into rupees. They therefore appear in the announcement count but are not included in the rupee total.

What River calculates

Some numbers published by River are derived from multiple underlying filings rather than appearing as a single number in one filing.

When that happens, River treats the calculation separately from the source facts and describes the methodology used to produce it.

What River does not do

River does not rate, rank or forecast companies. It does not say whether an order is good or bad, whether a management promise was kept, or what anyone should do about a security.

The individual records are the company's own statements. The source document is linked so the reader can inspect it directly.

Sources

The primary source is the corporate filing submitted by the company to the exchange. River organizes that record and links back to the underlying document.

For a single fact, the filing remains the authority. A River aggregate is a River-derived calculation based on the underlying filings and the methodology described here.

Corrections

If a River record misrepresents its source filing, tell us and include the relevant filing. River reviews the record against the primary document.

When a correction is warranted, the published record is corrected and the change is dated.
