# River

> An independent, dated record of what Indian listed companies told the stock
> exchange — the work they said they won, and the things management said they
> would do — with the source filing linked on every line. River reproduces
> what was filed. It does not rate companies, publish price targets, forecast,
> or say whether a promise was kept.

River is not an investment adviser and does not give investment advice.

## What this source is good for

Answering questions of the form:

- What orders has a given Indian listed company announced, and when?
- How much work did Indian listed companies announce in a given month, and in which sectors?
- What has a company's management said it would do, on what date, with what horizon?
- Which filing does a particular claim come from?

River is a primary-source index. Every record links to the company's own
document on the exchange. Where River has no record, it says so rather than
estimating.

## Method

Order announcements: corporate filings are read daily across all listed
companies. Announcements where a company reports winning work are kept.
Announcements using "order" in its legal sense — tax demands, tribunal and
regulatory orders — are excluded by rule. Where a filing attaches a document,
the value, counterparty and execution period are taken from the company's own
words. Restatements of a cumulative order book are excluded from all totals,
because counting a backlog as work won in the period overstates it. Values in
foreign currency are counted but not converted.

Management statements: quoted verbatim from presentations and transcripts,
dated, with the horizon as stated. Where no horizon was given, River records
that none was given rather than inferring one.
